A Wedding at the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center

Ceremony: Schlitz Audubon Pavilion
Reception: Schlitz Audubon Great Hall
Flowers: Bank of Memories & Flowers
Month: May

College in Boston brought together two people from two different hemispheres: Brittany, from Pewaukee, WI, and Michael, from Cape Town, South Africa. Their families came together to celebrate their marriage at the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center in Bayside,WI.

The planning began a year before we met with Brittany and her mother to plan her bouquets, boutonnieres, and corsages. With some tweaking along the way we designed bouquets with both families in mind.

Brittany's bouquet was natural and flowing with a mix of herbs such as mint, lavender, and rosemary, hydrangea, lotus pods, succulents, pink peonies, sweet william, green wheat, and green hypericum berries centered on a gorgeous King Protea. The protea is native to the groom's place of birth, South Africa. The hand tied bouquet was finished with lamb's ear, dusty miller, plumosa, and variegated pittosporum, wrapped in burlap and twine.

Her bridesmaids carried a smaller version without the protea. The groomsmen and ring bearer all sported a boutonniere of hypericum berries and rosemary.

A mix of herbs and greens were tied to the chairs on the aisle. A handmade backdrop fluttered behind the couple as they said their vows.

The mother and father of the bride designed the table arrangements themselves. The arrangements were a mixture of wooden boxes filled with succulents, mosses, and insect brooches aside rabbit vases with protea and allium. As rabbits are Brittany's favorite animal, she incorporated them into her design throughout the venue.

The staff at Bank of Memories & Flowers wishes Brittany and Michael all the best for their future travels and wedded life.

Teacher Appreciation Week History

Although the beginnings of Teacher Appreciation Week are disputed, the experts all agree Eleanor Roosevelt was contacted and asked to help persuade Congress to proclaim a National Teacher's Day in 1953.

The National Education Association along with several state affiliates lobbied Congress again and March 27, 1980 was declared National Teacher Day, a day to honor teachers and educators for everything they do to help their students.

In 1985 the NEA Representative Assembly voted to change the date from March to the first full week in May of each year as Teacher Appreciation Week and Tuesday of that week as National Teacher Day.

Everyone has that one teacher who inspired them, motivated them, gave them a sense of belonging. During the week of May 4-8 and particularly Tuesday, May 5th, please thank your children's teachers. Or thank your favorite teacher for helping you become the person you are today.

Everyone at Bank of Memories & Flowers would like to thank all our teachers, our children's teachers, and all the future teachers entering this demanding and rewarding field.

I, personally, would like to thank every art teacher from grade school all the way through college, who inspired me to search for that one career that would include color and design and pointed me in the direction of becoming a floral designer.
