Pewaukee Flower Shop Provides Natural Beauty for Life’s Most Significant Events

PEWAUKEE – When contemplating her career path, Danyell Cain originally planned to become an art teacher.

“I’d studied art for years and years and always loved it,” she said. “But at that point, I wasn’t sure that I wanted to to teach.”

Retaining the desire to pursue some kind of artistic career, she then contemplated interior design. “But when I found out it was 90 percent math, I thought, no way!” she said with a laugh.

Cain finally chose floral arranging. And as manager of Bank of Memories & Flowers’ Pewaukee branch, she couldn’t be happier.

“Floral arranging incorporates the artistic side of things, with color, design and style,” she said. “And floral arrangements are usually for very important, significant dates in people’s lives, like weddings, anniversaries and birthdays. I love being able to be part of that.”

Cain knew of Bank of Memories and Flowers’ fabled (or should we say floral?) history, since its home branch is in Menomonee Falls and she grew up there. So after studying at the Milwaukee School of Floral Design, she was delighted to join the shop on the corner of Oakton Avenue and Capitol Drive 3 1/2 years ago, not long after its move there from the 200 block of Oakton.

“The corner has been great for us,” she said. “We have a lot of walk-in customers, and our location here helps so much with that.”

Cain has five employees currently, she said.

“We usually have two to three designers on during the day,” she said. “ We used to have fewer, but we’re growing and doing more business, which is awesome.”

She also has deliveries covered, with two highly efficient drivers, said Cain.

“We cover the entire Lake Country area, including Oconomowoc and Pewaukee,” she said. “And our drivers are local guys. They know the area really well.”

Although she and her staff are comfortable with both traditional and custom arrangements, Cain especially enjoys working with customers who are planning funeral services.

“I really take that to heart,” she said. “It’s a sad occasion, but it’s so nice for us to be part of it, to help create a last tribute for the person who’s passed away. And we’ve had phone calls after the funeral to thank us for the arrangement, and that means so much.”
