Lapham Peak Wedding Shoot

Something Borrowed, Something Blue

We were thrilled when Nikki of Nikki Kate Photography contacted Bank of Flowers this past July to participating in photo shoot to create a bouquet for a styled wedding shoot.  She was going to take photos at Lapham Peak in Delafield, WI and wanted me to use muted blues and gold for the color scheme.  Nikki sent some inspirational photographs and said she wanted the mood to be dreamy and romantic, she loved the look of loose leaves.  A few days later, she decided to add a floral crown to the look.

My colleague, Wendy Walker, created the floral crown first.  She used a twine base and added seeded eucalyptus and dusty miller first for texture, then added cream spray roses, wax flower and tiny blue thistle as focals.  To add a touch of whimsy, she designed only half which is worn to the side.  The day of the shoot, I created the bridal bouquet starting with an armature of curly willow.  Adding to that base were the "dusty" greens, seeded and silver dollar eucalyptus, dusty miller, springerei and millet.  For textural interest, rice flower, poppy pods, and grey brunia were added.  The flowers were the finale and included blue thistle, light blue delphinium, blue bachelor buttons and cream roses.  It was so much fun to use my imagination to create this bouquet.

Who knew that the weather would change that afternoon, and that after makeup and hair, Nikki and the model only had 10 minutes to get all the photos taken before a thunderstorm came whipping through Lapham Peak and Waukesha county.  Obviously, that was all the time they needed because they took some fabulous pictures!
