Lush Summer Designs

It's halfway through the summer and here at Bank of Memories & Flowers, we've been busy designing and delivering the best and most beautiful blooms in town!!  We see a lot of our customers gravitating towards sunflowers, brightly colored gerbera daisies, and green hydrangeas.  

Summer is all about bright pops of color and these arrangements deliver just that. I love designs that feel like they are straight from the garden. Think dramatic and versatile, the fresh picked look is very popular and some of my personal favorites include green ball dianthus, fuchsia zinnias and orange cabbage roses. 

Compact arrangements seem to be the most popular style that we see at the shop, and they are so much fun to design.  When ordering, we love it when you leave the design up to us.  These types of unique arrangements seem to turn out the best.  This way we can work with some fun color combinations and different foliage, some that we can even submerge into the vases for a different design.

Learning to Design

Recently, our Menomonee Falls location of Bank of Memories & Flowers hosted a few hands-on events.  These design classes are held in the shops new upper space nicknamed "The Studio".  This newly renovated space is located on the top level of the store and gives us a place to host larger classes and events, and more room to design large wedding and event flowers.

I assisted Melissa, our shop owner, in the most recent design event.  Participants learned about the history of the shop, a bit about fresh cut flowers, and step-by-step floral design.  It was an amazing evening and so much fun!

Each of the ladies who attended got to make their own fresh flower arrangement, which they took home with them.  Some planned to enjoy their creations, while others had plans to give them as gifts.
The evening started with a tour of the shop, originally a bank in the early 1900's.  Everyone learned a bit of history about the building, as well as fun facts about fresh cut flowers including where they come from and how they are handled.

Melissa started the design portion by explaining the basics of flower design including greening and flower prep.  Next, the focal flowers, and then accents and filler flowers.  Although everyone had the same flowers and container to work with, each arrangement looked different and unique.

 

Everyone had a great time and many gals asked when the next class was going to be...so I think its safe to say that there will be more fun with florals to be had in the future.  Keep an eye out on Facebook and in the shop for more information on future design classes!

Milwaukee's Magnificent Bride

Milwaukee's Magnificent Bride Wedding Show has been making wedding dreams come true for over a decade.  This year Bank of Memories & Flowers was personally invited to participate with some of the top premiere wedding vendors in the Milwaukee area.  The event took place at the historic Pfister Hotel in downtown Milwaukee.

Our booth was covered in textural greens, quicksand nude colored roses, succulents and deep wine colored roses.  Dramatic over-sized lanterns where nestled all over the booth filled with candles and fresh greens.  Our dramatic 8 foot long floral piece hovered on top of gold vases, hanging crystals and glass globes swayed to add more ambiance.

We created a few of our favorite bridal bouquets that we displayed in the booth.  We can't decide which one was our favorite!

The highlight of the event for us was our fantasy table where we collaborated with other venders to create a gorgeous themed table.  Bank of Memories & Flowers, Paper Envy, BBJ Linen and Canopies all came together to create this very special look for a sweetheart table or a parents table.  The fresh flowers table runner was filled with over 50 hydrangeas and 100 roses, it was stunning!

Nick and Kelly, Featured in Veil Magazine

From our first meeting which included both moms, I knew Kelly and Nick were going to be a great couple to work with.  They chose non-traditional colors, navy and lime green, and for flowers, they chose mini green hydrangeas and green button mums with lots of bling and mercury glass for their fall wedding.

Kelly loved the brooch bouquet her Uncle had made for her cousin, so when asked, he made one for her as well.  She also wanted to include her father who had passed before the wedding.  I told her about a bride who had sewn charms with pictures of her father and grandparents onto the backs of her shoes so they could walk her down the aisle.  Kelly chose to put the photo of her dad onto ribbon that she tied around her ankle.

The bridemaids' bouquets were made of of mini green hydrangeas, natural green carnations, green button mums and hypericum berries, which popped against their navy blue dresses.  The bouquets were wrapped in navy ribbon to match the dresses with thick rhinestone bands around the middle of their handles.

I met the men of the wedding party at Pewaukee Lake and pinned on their green rose and hypericum berry boutonnieres while we waited for the ladies to arrive for pictures.

The couple decided not to have floral displays at their ceremony.  As you can see, Orthodox churches do not need extra adornment, they are beautiful as they are.

Western Lakes Golf Club hosted the reception, where each table held a part of Kelly's mercury glass collection.  Half of the tables were decorated with a cylinder glass vase holding white hydrangeas, mini green hydrangeas, and green buttons.  The other tables were decorated with the bride's keepsakes.  With wonderful food and a lot of Greek dancing, this was a wedding to remember!

Just recently I found out that Kelly and Nick's wedding was featured in The Veil Magazine.  What an honor for them as a couple as well as for me, the floral designer!

Flowers add so much to an event.  From the biggest and grandest weddings, to intimate events with friends, it's all about the flowers!  Each event has its own story to tell, which is often reflected in the decorations chosen.

Sharon and David chose a rich, lush wild feel for their wedding flowers.  From the elegant garden roses and mini-green hydrangeas, to the petite spray roses and berries, it's all about the texture.  The greenery really made these pieces pop.

Seeded eucalyptus, guinea eucalyptus, bay leaves, dusty miller, and hints of grevillia all came together with the blossoms to create the amazing textural pieces.

You can even find little succulent plants nestled into the bouquets and the groom's boutonniere.  It's all about the details!

Kristie & Jason, Wedding on the Lake

Ceremony and Reception: Seven Seas-Lakeside Terrace

Kristie had a clear vision of her wedding theme, rustic and woodsy. She even came supplied with her own burlap containers, wood slices and mason jars.  It was up to the designers at Bank of Memories & Flowers to help her turn her vision to reality.

Kristie's bouquet was a lovely mix of white flowers; hydrangeas, peonies, and mini calla lilies, mini green hydrangeas and hypericum berries as well as blue thistle, blue delphinium and succulents.  Her bouquet was wrapped in burlap and twine, a continuous look for the whole wedding.  Her bridesmaids, dressed in Marine blue, carried smaller matching bouquets with more green flowers added to them.

The gentlemen of the wedding party wore a white mini calla lily with a blue delphinium blossom, the groom's featured an addition of green hypericum berries. All stems, of course, wrapped in twine.

Kristie had seen pomanders as a backdrop for a ceremony and wanted to create this unique feature in baby's breath and greens. It helped to set a stage for the couples ceremony.

Three different centerpieces were chosen for the reception tables. Three mason jars filled with baby's breath were set on top of the wood slice as one setting.  Burlap containers were used for the other two settings, one featuring a lush variegated ivy plant and the other designed with white and mini green hydrangeas and seeded eucalyptus.  

It was a beautiful summer day on the lake and we want to wish Kristie and Jason many many more beautiful days on the lake in their future.
