How to take Care of a Pointsettia

Celebrate National Poinsettia Day with Bank of Memories & Flowers on December 12!!  On this day, all of our beautiful poinsettias will be 10% off!!

Although poinsettias a native to Mexico, 90% of all poinsettias are now exported from the United States.  The poinsettia, named after Joel Roberts Poinsett, is known as the official plant of Christmas.  Poinsett, who loved botony, was the first US Ambassador to Mexico under President Madison, where the plant grew as a tree!

The poinsettia toxicity rumor crops up every December, but we want to nip it in the bud and say that is is completely false.  They are not harmful to people or pets in any way!  According to the Madison Poison Control Center, a 50-pound child would need to ingest 500-600 poinsettia leaves to suffer ill effects of any significance - which is highly unlikely to occur.

Here are some easy ways to care for your lovely poinsettia:
  • Don’t leave them in your car in weather below 60 degrees.
  • Avoid cold drafts and breezes.
  • They tolerate low light, but bright lighting is better for poinsettias.
  • Lift the poinsettia from the pot. If it’s light, then you need to add water. Don’t over water it, as the bottom leaves will start to fall off.
  • When adding water, let the water run through the holes of the pot.
  • The plant will do best if it is consistently damp, (not sopping wet.)

Lambeau Field Wedding

Kassy + Cory's Wedding Day

Wedding Ceremony Venue: Shepherd of the Hills Church
Wedding Reception Venue: Lambeau Field
Catering: Levy Restaurants (Through Lambeau Field)
Photographer: Lemon Tree Photography

Kassy & Cory’s Packers themed wedding ceremony was in a Hubertus church and their reception was at Lambeau Field! This was one way to impress your guess with this amazing unique venue.
Her flowers were just as amazing, a cascade of all large white calla lilies. This was by far the most heavy bouquet we have ever done at Bank of Memories & Flowers.  Her bridesmaids carried white and yellow tulips wrapped in satin ribbon adorn with a broach.

The Gardens, Allenton WI

Not only was I honored to be chosen to stand up with my husband in Nate and Jen's wedding, but also happy they chose Bank of Memories & Flowers to create their vision for all their flowers.  I love Jen's color combination and flowers that she chose for her wedding.  The bouquets included navy viburnum berries, green hydrangea, lovely ivory roses,  green cymbidium orchids, adorable kermit mums and fuzzy "green trick" dianthus. They couldn't have asked for a more perfect day in September. Congratulations Nate and Jen Unger!  We wish you a lifetime of happiness!!  Thank you Mia for the beautiful photography. You truly captured the day!

Pearl Harbor, Hawaii

December 7th, 1941 is a "date that will live in infamy," this is what President Franklin D. Roosevelt said about the Attacks on Pearl Harbor. Today, we celebrate and honor the 2,000+ men and women that lost their lives during this horrendous time in history. This attack on our US base brought us into World War II. The attack itself only lasted 110 minutes, but the effect on the nation will last a lifetime.

In honor of Pearl Harbor Day, Bank of Memories & Flowers will be giving out a free rose to any veteran who has served our country.  Stop in December 7th and pick out your rose. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your service and patriotism!

Erin Hills Golf Course Wedding II

I wanted to share these beautiful photos that I just received of Amy and Ben's wedding from Katie Rie Photography, I hope you enjoy this second look.

Amy and Ben were married July 22 on a relaxing Sunday at the Emmanuel Community United Methodist Church in Menomonee Falls and their reception was at the Erin Hills Golf Course.

Phone, text and email is the only way Amy and I communicated to created her vintage-garden themed flowers.  Being that my bride lived in San Francisco, we planned her dream wedding flowers just in a few months in her home town of Menomonee Falls.  I just loved hearing her excitement over the phone when I sent her a pictures via text of ideas I had.

Amy and Ben are one of a kind by having the only wedding at Erin Hills Golf Course, the future site of the 2017 US Open.  It was a special intimate day filled with such personal detail.

Thank you to Katie Rie Photography for these photos.
