Air Plants- Easy to Love

At Bank of Memories & Flowers we just got in a great variety of different air plants that are truly a "conversation piece."  They're just...so...cool. No planter, no soil. These ones are placed in a specially designed hanging glass sphere. They just hang out- look!

We get the question quite often about how difficult they are to take care of and they are actually fairly low maintenance.  One of the most common misconceptions of air plants is that they don't need to be watered; that they can thrive on air alone.  This is not true. Air plants need water and sunlight just like any other plant!  The amount of water your plants need depends on its environment.  If the plant is indoors in a home with dry air, it should be submerged in water for 2-3 hours every week or if you have the time, mist them more often.  Misting them with water if they look a little dry; they come from a humid environment, so they appreciate all the humidity they can get.  Keeping them in a mostly enclosed glass container helps, too.  As for sunlight, air plants should not be set out to bake in direct sun; indirect light works best and if they are placed no further than ten feet away from a window, they should do fine.
