The 411 On Tulips

At Bank of Memories & Flowers, we have the most beautiful variety of fresh cut tulips and tulip bulb plants. Tulips are one of the most popular spring flowers. They come in a variety of colors, shapes and heights. We typically carry "dutch tulips" that are what most people think of when they think tulip, but we also on occasion carry french and parrot tulips. French tulips have very long stems and larger, elongated petals; parrot tulips usually have multiple colors swirled together on fringed, feather-like petals.

Tulips are the world's third most popular flower after roses and chrysanthemums. Our tulips come to us from Holland, which is the largest producer of cut tulips. Tulips best availability falls within November to May, and they have a lifespan of up to 7 days or longer depending on conditions. Tulips kept in a warmer environment will not last as long as ones kept in a cooler room, however the ones in the warm room will open in a matter of minutes and show off their colors.

Move them to a cooler location, and they will close back up! Many people don't realize that tulips have another trick up their sleeve-- they continue to grow after they are cut. To maintain the look and style of your arrangement, it is important to give tulips a fresh cut in clean water daily. A home remedy for droopy tulips...re-cut stems, add fresh water, and a small cap full of vodka. One of our designers tried this at home and it really works!!

Beautiful and romantic, tulip blooms are right for any occasion! In the ancient times, tulips were worn inside a turban in Turkey and were featured in certain Turkish legends. Once the popularity of tulips spread, tulips became associated with true love. As with many flowers, the colors took on certain meanings: red symbolizes love, whereas yellow tulips symbolize happiness in one's life. A purple tulip stands for royalty whereas white tulips signify peace or forgiveness. The Dutch took the tulip's popularity to its highest level in the 1630's in a time period known as Tulip Mania.

Tulips were the luxury status symbol to have and prices of a single bulb exceeded the annual income of the average person, which makes our 10 stem tulip bunches a real bargain at $11.98!
These beautiful flowers enjoy an important position in our lives! Their enchanting beauty has surely cast a spell on all flower lovers!
